Freezing Ground Beef and Chicken

I have been shopping for large packages of meat for years in order to say money. When I get home, I always portion it up and freeze it in a freeze bag. A few years ago I wised up to the better way of doing it.

In today’s world of busy men and women coming home in the evenings to cook dinner, sometimes, they are faced with a large package of chicken of beef. It takes time to defrost it even in using the microwave.

Here is what I do. I bought ground round yesterday. I sectioned it into half pound portions. When I put it into a freezer bag, now, I flatted out the meat as thin as the bag will allow. This is a wonderful way to save on the time it takes to defrost. It only takes a short time no matter if you set it in the fridge to defrost or use your microwave. Not only will it save you time, but it is a great way to get more space out of your freezer.

If you buy chicken whole but I am thinking that most people do not do that much anymore, cut it up before freezing. If you enjoy the white meat for one dish, you can freeze the white pieces together. The darker meat which is great in casseroles and soups can be frozen together as well.

The same applies to freezing chicken breast. Freeze only a couple of breast per bag so that they are not stacked on top of each other. Save yourself some time and enjoy your dinner.
